Words & Keywords:
Practically speaking keywords are the heart & soul of SEO because SEO is done for search engines and keywords are the words used while searching in search engines… get that?
Like say, you were searching for an article post or blog or for some website or content related to golf – so what would you do? Obviously you would go to Google or yahoo search or to any of your favorite search engine and type your question… isn’t it? If you are searching for golf clubs, you may type ‘golf clubs’ in your search box or if you are searching for ‘golf courses in America’ then you may search accordingly, so these ‘search terms’ are our ‘Keywords’ – as simple as that.
Now, if we want our website to be listed in search engine results… you very well know what to do, don’t you? Right, you will have to include ‘chosen keywords’….
- In your page content
- In your website’s HTML tags (including heading & Meta & Alt & Title ;... actually every tag that comes your way)
- Hyperlinked text or Anchor texts
- In your website URLs
- In your social media profiling pages, In your blogs, While bookmarking, While networking using available websites, (or call it link-building to put it all at once)
- In or when you post advertisements
- When you go for Pay Per Click
- Do email marketing (or to club it all say, Search Engine Marketing)
- …and etc, and etc and etc.

Well, now you know, keywords are everywhere – you’ll find them almost in every single concept of SEO & SEM. There’s no stopping to it – You will have to use your carefully chosen keywords everywhere. Yes!
Keywords have to be very carefully chosen. You just can’t put the page using the words you want, it would look nice to you but search engines may not find it appealing and, as we like calling ourselves ‘Search Engine Optimizers’ we need to think from the optimizing point of view.
Few examples where keywords counts are considered:
- Meta tags which can have a maximum of 10 keywords.
- Meta description can have less than 150 characters.
- Header tags (serve as heading to webpage’s content) range from H1 to H6.
- Title tags (appear as ‘Title’ in the website window) can be up to 70 Characters.
- Alter or Alt tags (names or labels to images or objects) 150 characters.
Now you may ask me…
How am I going to know which keywords are the most searched, related to my website?
How do I know which of them are highly ranked?
How do I optimize my website content?
Its’ perfectly fair to ask, Optimizer… don’t worry!
