SEO – Session Part IX
SEO – Session Part IX
Morning guys!
Been a long time, isn’t it? …not a single new post!Well, no worries now, I’m back and we’ll start right away!
Previously, we’ve learnt how having many links is good for our website (maybe you remember – it affects our Google page rank, traffic rank, popularity, progress and almost everything) and we’ve also been through sessions showing ways to create them; we’re perfectly aware as how advantageous links are when talking in terms of ROI (Return on Investment) or popularity. Well, today we’ll be going a little more further in the linking line itself.
Let me ask you a few questions…
How will you know how many links have you created in total, or if I put it this way, tell me:
How many backlinks have you created for your website? (D’you understand what backlinks are?)
How many inbound links are there in your website?
How many pages from your website are indexed? (D’you understand indexing?)
It’s really great if we are working hard towards building links being completely aware of its benefits, but how wonderful would it be if we could count the total number of links made till-date (backlinks, inbound links, index links, etc) and then compare it with our competitors! That would be real fun, won’t it? Also, you’d be able to measure your work and success!
So, today we’ll be learning how to measure our website's progress in terms of links.
Backlinks: Plainly speaking back links are the links coming from various other websites and refer to your website. Like say, if you’ve posted your website profile on a social networking website linking to your website – then it will count for one back link. That’s it – as simple as that.
‘More the number of back links – better the growth in all aspects’

Counting backlinks:
…It’s an easy job!
Backlinks can either be counted using specified tools or (if you do not have any tool – don’t panic!) they’re easily countable through other easily available sources as well. It also depends on the browser that you are using. For Firefox & IE, we’ve got tools but I’m not sure if chrome supports any thing as such! Leme know if you’re aware, though.
Well, talking technically, you’ve got to install the ‘Quirk Tool bar for Firefox’ in your Firefox web browser to know the number of varied links of your website – You can download it online for FREE from http://www.quirk.biz/searchstatus/ (this one toolbar is enough for counting all different kinds of links, chill, you don’t have to go looking for a new toolbar every time you wanna count a particular type of link – so chill)
Note-worthy Note: I might have missed telling this whilst explaining Google PageRank or traffic rank – but you’ll know all your ranks either from the above mentioned toolbar (if installed) or know all your websites’ statistics from http://www.alexa.com/.
You will know your website’s:
- Google PageRank
- Alexa Traffic rank
- Traffic rank in your home country
- Traffic rank in other countries
- Keywords that drive your traffic
- Click stream
- Demographics
- And many more facts!
That’s all for the day, we’ll carry on with this t’rrow…….. Take care!
