How are your optimization practices going?

Well, lets’ run straight into the next topic of website analysis, i.e. Sitemap and also brief through its importance.

Definition wise, ‘A site map is a tree-style representation of the structural and hierarchical linkage of a web site.’


Confusing eh?

Let me put it simple for you: ‘A sitemap (as the name explains) is just a map of your whole website.’ On one single page you see the link-wise map of your whole website, its sections, links between them, etc.

Using sitemaps has many benefits – not only do they make it easier for navigation and better visibility for search engines but also offer the opportunity to inform search engines immediately about any changes on your site.

Sitemaps are particularly beneficial on websites where some areas of the website are not available through the browsable interface, or if webmasters use rich Ajax, Silver light, or Flash content that is normally not processed by search engines.

When your visitors see your sitemap, they will get the gist of your website with a glance and henceforth there’s no need to browse through each page of your site to get the "big picture" and by doing that you will be saving your visitors' time… Isn’t that impressive?

   A sitemap enables you to have a complete bird's eye view of your site structure with just a single glance, and so whenever you need to add new content or sections, you will be able to take the existing hierarchy into consideration.

Sitemap’s use encourages having a perfectly organized site with everything sorted according to their relevance &; importance.

MSN, Yahoo, Ask, and Google use similar protocol for indexing – having a Sitemap lets the four biggest search engines have the updated page information about you….Wow! How excellent it is!
Technically speaking – Sitemap is an XML file that lists all the URLs of a website. It allows webmasters to include additional information about each URL: when it was last updated, how often it changes, how important it is in relation to other URLs in the site, etc. This allows search engines to crawl the site more intelligently.

Sitemaps are a URL inclusion protocol and complement robots.txt, a URL exclusion protocol.

Having a Sitemap is extremely beneficial for the indexing of pages on a website. When a search engine robot finds this page, it will follow the links on the sitemap and therefore every single page of your site will get crawled and indexed.





More often, the homepage of a website has the highest page rank – So, placing a sitemap link on it will guarantee indexing of all pages on that website, that too much faster!

Sitemap submission increases your chances to list in search engine results as they can even help with messy internal links.
